In my experience as a former athlete, sport psychologist and human being I always face up to changes. Wherever the changes come from it is no doubt true that every time we are in front of it we are both scared and curious. How did you feel the last time you realized you had to apply for a new job? We need to enhance our personal awareness to better learn how to “go through” our emotions if we want to be resilient. We need to stay connected even when we are stressed or suffering and not immediately fly away from those feelings. Stay with it. In my experience as an athlete and with athletes and people I see many times the denial attitude in front of the bad emotions that springs off a failure. I consider of a great importance for athletes (and for people in general) not to bury their head into the sand until their next “positive result”. A mindful athlete will realize soon the positive effect of such a mental approach. They feel free to perform their best. A coaching program may help calming the mind so that your body can perform. A mindful attitude can help you cope with the changes you need to reach out of your comfort zone.
